BizHelperSuite brings invoices, expenses, taxes and accounting into one platform

BizHelperSuite is the J3B Web SaaS product for small businesses and accounting firms. It works in French, English and Spanish, and installs like an app on a computer, tablet or phone.

The starting point

BizHelperSuite follows BizHelpers, a first version built on CodeIgniter 3. The new platform was rewritten on CodeIgniter 4.

The goal was to bring into one tool what a small business often keeps in several: invoices, expenses, purchasing, taxes and accounting reports. The accounting firm had to see the same numbers without asking for files.

What was built

  • Sales

    • Quotes, invoices and recurring invoices
    • Online payment with Stripe
    • Shopify sync
    • Newsletters written with help from Claude AI
  • Expenses and purchasing

    • Receipts read by AI, with Tesseract text recognition as a fallback
    • Suppliers, purchase orders and supplier invoices
    • Amazon expense import
  • Accounting

    • General ledger, journal, trial balance, balance sheet and income statement
    • Bank accounts, budgets and forecasts
    • Read-only access for the accounting firm
  • Projects

    • Kanban board
    • Time tracking by project
  • Security

    • Mandatory two-factor authentication, by email or app, with recovery codes
    • Bank details and tax numbers encrypted with AES-256
    • Audit logs and full erasure of an account’s data

Three problems solved

  1. 01

    Taxes in several countries

A Quebec invoice shows GST and QST on two lines. The platform knows the taxes of the 13 provinces and territories, the 50 US states and the District of Columbia, 24 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, and Australia, as well as the reverse charge between businesses. In the United States, it applies the seller’s state rate.

  2. 02

    Expenses entered offline

On a job site or in an underground parking lot, the connection often drops. An expense and the photo of its receipt can still be entered. They stay on the device and are sent as soon as the network is back. The rest of the app needs a connection.

  3. 03

The accounting firm in the loop

An accounting firm invites its clients into the platform and reads their books in read-only mode. It sees the same numbers as the business, at the same time, with no export or email.

By the numbers

21
currencies, 8 of them crypto
13
Canadian provinces and territories and their taxes
≈ 215
