BizTrack Suite counts RFID inventory even when the network drops

BizTrack Suite is the J3B Web RFID inventory product, for Zebra TC53E devices with the RFD90 reader. Once a count has started, the Android app counts offline and sends the reads when the network is back. Four web portals serve the administration, wholesalers, resellers and clients.

The starting point

An RFID reader reads hundreds of tags in a few seconds, often in aisles where Wi-Fi barely reaches. The app had to keep counting without a network and send each read only once.

The product is sold through a network of wholesalers and resellers. Each level needed its own portal, and device licences had to be managed without blocking anyone in the middle of a count.

Three problems solved

  1. 01

Offline, with no loss or duplicates

Reads stay on the device and go out in batches of 2,000. If a send is cut off, the batch is sent again and the server does not count it twice. In load tests, 200,000 reads arrived in 76 seconds, with no loss or duplicates.

  2. 02

    Catalogues of 185,000 items

The catalogue import is designed for a 20 MB CSV file with 185,000 items. It runs in the background, in chunks of 500, and spots the barcodes a spreadsheet turned into scientific notation.

  3. 03

    Licences without bad surprises

Each licence moves through defined states, and every change is logged. A check runs every day, but a device is never blocked in the middle of a count.
